25 Years. 35 Million Women.
One Idea.

The story of the Original Ahh Bra® — why Rhonda created it, the moment it sold out on live TV, why the formula has never changed, and where the collection has gone since.

The Original Ahh Bra was created by Rhonda Shear as a solution to the fundamental problem with conventional bras: underwire that digs, rigid cups that restrict, bands that cut in. The design — 96% nylon, 4% spandex, 4-way stretch seamless knit, wire-free, no back clasp — has never changed in 25 years. Over 35 million have been sold.

Every great idea starts with a problem that nobody was solving correctly. For me, the problem was this: why do bras have to be uncomfortable?

Not slightly uncomfortable. Not uncomfortable in specific situations. Genuinely, reliably, by-noon-you-want-to-take-it-off uncomfortable. The underwire that shifts. The rigid cup that doesn't move when you do. The clasp that presses into your spine when you sit. The band that was fine at 8am and is cutting into your ribcage by 2pm.

I kept asking myself: what if the bra itself was the problem? Not the fit, not the size, not the brand — the design. The fundamental decision to build support around rigid metal and stiff construction. What would a bra look like if you started from scratch and asked: how does the body actually move?

The Idea: Start From Comfort

The answer I landed on was fabric. Not wire. Not padding. Not a rigid frame — fabric that moves in every direction, that holds its shape not because it's stiff but because it's engineered to recover. Ninety-six percent nylon, four percent spandex, in a four-way stretch seamless knit. No seams across the cup. No underwire. No back clasp. Nothing rigid anywhere.

The name came later, when women started wearing it and describing how it felt. "I put it on and I just went ahh." That was it. That was the bra.

I stood on a TV set in the early 2000s and held up a bra that had no underwire and told America it was the most comfortable bra they'd ever own. I could see the skepticism in the room. By the end of that first hour, we'd sold out. By the end of the year, we'd sold millions. I knew then that I hadn't invented something new — I'd finally solved something old.

Why It Works: The Technical Story

The Original Ahh Bra looks simple. That's the point. The engineering is entirely in the fabric — a choice that most bra designers never consider because the industry defaulted to structured construction long ago.

96% Nylon · 4% Spandex
The formula that has never changed. High nylon content gives the bra its shape retention and wash durability. The 4% spandex provides the stretch and recovery that allows it to move with the body and return to its original shape after every wear and wash — in every direction simultaneously.
4-Way Stretch Seamless Knit Wire-Free No Clasp Machine Washable
What "wire-free seamless" actually means in practice:
No metal ridge through your knitwear or fitted tops
No cup seam lines visible under thin fabric
No clasp pressing into your spine after hours of sitting
No adjustment — you put it on and forget it
Moves with you in every direction — the 4-way stretch
Machine washable cold — no hand washing, no special care

The numbers matter, but the number I'm most proud of isn't 35 million. It's the fact that the formula hasn't changed. In an industry that reinvents itself every season, the Ahh Bra is still the same bra I designed 25 years ago — because when something is right, you don't fix it. You just make sure it's always available. In every color. In every size. At the same price.

$25 at XS. $25 at 5X. That was a deliberate decision. I didn't want the bra that changed women's relationship with comfort to be a bra that only some women could afford or only some women could find in their size.

The Ahh Bra — Common Questions

The Original Ahh Bra was designed and created by Rhonda Shear, founder of Rhonda Shear Intimates. Rhonda created the Ahh Bra after recognizing that the fundamental problem with conventional bras was the design itself — underwire and rigid construction that the industry had defaulted to for decades. Her solution was a 100% wire-free, seamless bra built entirely from fabric: 96% nylon and 4% spandex in a 4-way stretch seamless knit.

Over 35 million Original Ahh Bras have been sold since Rhonda Shear introduced the design in the early 2000s. It has been the best-selling style in the Rhonda Shear collection for 25 years continuously and is currently available in 26+ colors in sizes XS through 5X.

The Original Ahh Bra is made from 96% nylon and 4% spandex in a 4-way stretch seamless knit. This fabric combination provides all-directional stretch and recovery while maintaining its shape through years of washing. There is no underwire, no back clasp, no seamed cups, and no rigid construction anywhere. It is also sized by clothing size rather than bra band-and-cup sizing — which makes finding the right fit significantly more intuitive — and is available from XS through 5X at the same $25 price across all sizes.

No. The core formula — 96% nylon, 4% spandex, 4-way stretch seamless knit, wire-free, no back clasp, sized by clothing size — has remained unchanged for 25 years. Rhonda's view is that when a design is right, it does not need to be fixed. The collection has expanded with new styles (lace trim, crochet detail, jacquard motif, ombre, removable pads), but the Original Ahh Bra is the same bra it was at its debut.

The current Ahh Bra family includes: The Original Ahh Bra ($25, 26+ colors, XS–5X), Ahh Bra Generation with Removable Pads ($28, pocket bra compatible), Lace Trim Ahh Bra ($28, lace neckline detail), Seamless Crochet Detail Ahh Bra ($28, Pink Ice, Glass Green, Black), and Ahh Seamless Ombre Bra ($24, adjustable straps, new 2025). All styles are wire-free and seamless. See the full collection →
